About IRERS
The International Real Estate Research Symposium (IRERS) is a highly regarded biennial event organised by the National Institute of Valuation (INSPEN) and the Valuation and Property Services Department (JPPH), under the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia. As the primary organiser, INSPEN is a reputable training, academic, and research institute with strong support from government agencies, local and international universities, industry players, and real estate associations and societies.
IRERS has established itself as a prominent international real estate conference in Malaysia. It serves as a platform for real estate professionals from various sectors such as law, finance, construction, development, brokerage, and appraisal to come together and discuss the ever-changing dynamics of the real estate market.
The symposium, held once every two years since 2002, aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas and foster discussions on the future of real estate. It offers an excellent opportunity for global networking, enabling participants to share their expertise, build professional relationships, and gain insights into the future of the industry.
One of the key strengths of IRERS is its collaboration with international universities and property organisations. By bringing together diverse perspectives, the symposium enhances its quality and relevance in addressing current real estate sector challenges.
The IRERS program comprises several engaging sessions, including the Opening Ceremony, Plenary Sessions, Parallel Sessions, Forum, Industry Session, Academia Session, Research Clinic, and Poster Competition.
The Plenary Sessions feature esteemed presenters and speakers from both international and local collaborating institutions. These sessions provide valuable insights into the current environment of the real estate sector and help participants stay informed about the latest trends and developments.
Parallel Sessions encourage researchers to share their work and findings, while those who submit full papers have the opportunity to be considered for the prestigious IRERS Best Paper Award. Additionally, selected papers will be published in a journal indexed by Scopus, further increasing the impact of the research.
The Academia Session and Research Clinics cater to researchers and aspiring graduates from all fields of study. These sessions offer valuable guidance and support, fostering an environment conducive to learning and collaboration.
Since its introduction in 2012, the Poster Competition has been a highlight of IRERS. It challenges researchers and academicians to condense their research into a visually appealing poster format. An independent panel of juries selects the top three submissions, and the winners receive well-deserved recognition.
Previous IRERS events have covered a wide range of themes, including "Revitalising Real Estate: The Next Normal," "Humanising Real Estate Against Global Volatility," "Emerging Trends and Evolving Diversity in Real Estate," "Leading the Way: Innovation in Real Estate," and many more. These themes reflect the ever-evolving nature of the real estate industry and the symposium's commitment to exploring cutting-edge topics.
Traditionally, the IRERS takes place either at the National Valuation Institute (INSPEN) or a selected hotel within Kuala Lumpur. However, due to the pandemic, the recent symposium was held online, allowing participants from around the world to engage virtually.

With over 500 research and industry papers presented, IRERS covers a broad spectrum of areas within the real estate domain, including real estate investment, valuation and pricing, real estate development and construction, real estate market analysis, real estate economy and finance, property and facility management, housing affordability, intellectual property, new technology and data in real estate, and sustainability in real estate.
